Safety Tips to Remember

  • Preventing infection is VERY IMPORTANT! The best way to prevent infection is hand washing. Everyone must wash their hands before touching the baby. Avoid large crowds and sick people.

  • Use a car seat at all times. Do not leave the baby in the car unattended and don’t leave the baby in the car seat for extended periods of time.

  • Never leave baby alone in the infant seat, high chair or swing.

  • Never leave baby alone on the couch or bed.

  • Turn the temperature down on your hot water heater to 120 degrees F. This will help prevent scalding from water burns.

  • Avoid perfumed lotions and oils, these can irritate the baby’s skin.

  • Do not use baby powder. It is dangerous if accidentally inhaled.

  • Babies are very susceptible to the dangerous effects of smoking. Babies who are around smokers are more likely to have colds, ear infections, asthma, and allergies. Babies exposed to second hand smoke are more likely to die of SIDS. Remember, your baby can absorb nicotine from hair and clothing. NEVER smoke while holding your baby and especially if your baby is on oxygen.

  • Never leave the baby alone with a pet.
