Your baby will be taking multi-vitamins with iron at home
​

Premature infants often need extra vitamins and iron in addition to what they receive in their breast milk or formula
​

Your baby’s dose 1 milliliter (mL) or one dropper full once a day
​

It is suggested to give this dropper full in a bottle with a small amount of breast milk or formula (15-20 mL)
​

Your baby may spit this up as it does have a strong taste and smell, if this happens, you may give half of a dropper full 2 times a day (morning and evening)

If most of your baby’s feedings are formula they may get a reduced dose. Please ask your provider
​

Your baby will either go home on multivitamins with iron or Vitamin D but NOT both
​

Multi-Vitamins with Iron

Your baby will be taking Vitamin D supplement drops at home
​

All infants need extra Vitamin D in addition to what they receive in their breast milk or formula
​

Your baby’s dose is 400 international units (IU) of Vitamin D.
​

Drops may be given by gently squeezing the dropper into the side of the mouth OR drops can be given into a small amount of breast milk or formula
​

The taste is slightly sweet and infants usually tolerate Vitamin D well
​

There are multiple brands of Vitamin D available. The most common brands are Enfamil D-Vi-Sol, Baby D drops, Childlife Organic Vitamin D3 drops, and Just D by Sunlight Vitamins
